When is Moscow turning off my hot water?

Starting May 12th, the city will begin its annual summer preventative maintenance works, shutting off the hot water for up to 9 days in 1500 buildings, 900 of which are residential.

Will your building be affected? Most likely. When? Find out online, or via their text message service.

1. How to figure it out online: All you need is your street name in Russian. Go to http://www.oaomoek.ru and type your street name.  If you don’t speak Russian, check out our Hot Water Deprivation Guide 2015 below for a screenshot of the page.

2. Do it by SMS: Send the text message “вода график” to the short number, 7377.

You get an auto-reply with a link, where you have to use a drop-down menu to select your region, then fill in your street name and address. The last question is how far in advance you want to get the message.

Finally, here’s how you figure out what region you are in.  As always, there are a thousand steps to what should be a simple process. Apparently 340,000 people slogged through this last year when they were beta testing. Good luck.
