This year marks the 70th anniversary of победа (pobeda), victory, in WWII.
You might see car decals that say спасибо деду за победу, which rhymes in Russian, and translates to “Thanks to grandpa for victory.”
Парад means parade, and tonight the capital will see road closures from 22:00 in the center for the репетиция, the rehearsal. Further rehearsals will take place at dates TBA.
Check out my post on why Russia parades its tanks and missiles here.
Home & Away has a great photo essay on victory day here.
